Gabrielle Walker

Gabrielle Walker is an emerging art historian and art curator. Her work focuses on the making and materiality of the American landscape, especially exteriors—both natural and constructed—that Black Americans nurture and occupy. Her research interests vary from art, fashion, and material culture from Black Diaspora communities. As a descendent of enslaved people, her practice is greatly inspired by oral histories, archives, and ancestral legacies cherished by her family and local communities. Gabrielle is a co-founder of the Black Girls in Art Spaces’ Rhode Island chapter. She received her BA in art history and Spanish from George Mason University in 2023. She currently works as the Nancy Elizabeth Prophet Curatorial Assistant at the RISD Museum.
